About

Hola! My name is Ignacio Gallegos and I am honored to be the new EOP Advisor and CAASE Scholarship Coordinator.  I am a California native, born in San Francisco and have spent the majority of my life in Sonoma County.  I am the proud son of immigrants from Mexico and I was the first person in my entire extended family to go and graduate from College.  In 2008, I received a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology from UC Davis.

Before joining Sonoma State in 2017, I  worked with various populations within the mental health field.  At SSU,  I served as a member of the financial aid team and as a member of the Seawolf Services team.  I utilize my personable and encouraging nature to provide a mental health first approach to student support work; maintaining a passion for supporting students of diverse backgrounds, specifically first-generation, and low-income students in their educational pursuits. I am  excited to bring my experience, skills, and abilities to the EOP program!  I am also a club advisor for the SSU skate club and the head coach of the SSU Men's Rugby club.

In my spare time I enjoy hiking, paddleboarding, skating, painting, and gardening.

HOW I CAN HELP:

  • Provide strategies and share best practices in support of underserved, first generation, low-income, and educationally disadvantaged students based on research/data and years of experience within the field of higher education.

  • Support and develop students individually to realize and maximize their highest potential in order to successfully complete and earn their Bachelor’s degree from academic planning to career and personal development.

  • Provide a safe, brave, and inclusive space for any individual who walks into my office to be heard, validated, and listened to.

  • Work collaboratively across campus and within the community in order to best serve and meet the needs of our students.
